The Mountain Lakes Area Branch of AAUW provides Local Scholarships for women students in higher education. Deadline for Scholarship application and materials is usually sometime in March.

Congratulations to our 2009 Recipients!


Dolce Vieira is a graduate student at Montclair State University majoring in Environmental Studies. She received her BS at Rutgers University in Ceramic Engineering. She is a wife, mother, student, volunteer and an environmentalist. Dolce is highly recommended by Eric Stern, a professor at Montclair. She is also praised for her work with Every Drop Counts and Unity Charter School. She is active with the GPWC Montville Township Women's Club, Parent Association at Unity Charter School and environmental concerns. Her career goals of Environmental Studies are also her passion. She lives in Montville with her husband and daughter.

Stacey Chung is a junior at Rutgers University majoring in General Biotechnology. She is Vice President of the Rutgers Kendo Club, a form of Japanese martial arts. She took part in Honors Seminars in Springs of 2007 and 2008. Stacey is highly recommended by Dr. Loredana Quadro with whom she studies molecular biology techniques and works in the Department of Food and Sciences laboratory. She was the recipient of one of the prestigious fellowships of the Aresty Research Program at Rutgers. She also received praise from Timothy Casey, Director, SEBS General Honors Program. She hopes to continue her education by attending a dental school.

At various times during the year, AAUW's national Educational Foundation offers Fellowship and Grant programs, with deadlines falling in different months of the year, including: American Fellowships, Career Development Grants, Community Action Grants, Selected Professional Fellowships, and University Scholar-in-Residence. Our 2010 Scholarship recipients will be announced at the Annual Luncheon on Friday, May 14, 2010.

Applicants for the Branch scholarship must meet the following requirements:

  • Official residence in Morris County..
  • Completion of sophomore year at an accredited college or university or matriculation in a master’s program by June 2010.

Criteria for awards:

  • scholastic record
  • economic need
  • motivation
  • goals

The committee puts primary emphasis on economic need. At least one scholarship is reserved for a mature woman returning to college to complete her degree.
